Playing with food

Now how is this for a non scale victory ? Son and I made this gingerbread house this morning without so much as a lick of a finger. No candy nibbled, no fingers licked clean. It was a ton of fun to do, and looks and smells so Christmasy. Before this journey , such a feat was not possible without consuming about 10 pounds of candy in the process. It's not perfect in apperance, but it signifies that food has definitely become a more healthy thing for us.

Awe, I think it is beautiful! I love making gingerbread houses. They are so much fun, even if you don't eat them.

In fact, I don't think we've ever actually consumed one. Maybe it's because so much hard work goes into them that you don't want to mess it up. lol

In the past we have made a lot of the really simple ones using grahm crackers as a frame and the boy would steal them and eat them. Then one year we used cardboard for the frame and the royal icing and candy to decorate, and the candy got eaten. Then when we would bake the gingerbread house part there would always be several mistakes that got eaten, and the final product was eaten by the boy in December 26 . He is his kind of kid who thinks Martha Stewart is the way to go and fancy tastes better. I am like you- they are too pretty to eat !
