Grabbing a pole and looking for a white flag

This weeks weigh in, changes made were eating bacon and eggs for breakfast and substituting coconut oil for olive oil, getting 30 minutes of exercise 6 days a week and keeping the rest of the eating plan the same.

Me- UP 0.4
Nick- UP 1.2
Bob- - 0.4

I will be honest. After 3 and a half years of working at this and seeing little or no results for ANY efforts made, I am getting ready to totally throw in the towel. Rather than lose, in the last year I have GAINED 10 lbs. No amount of exercise, calorie counting, nutritional shifting does any good it seems. Not going to try pills as that creates other problems. Not going to do surgical methods because I have seen several friends die or wind up with serious health problems because of it. Been down the road of Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, Jenny and countless other ways that have worked for millions. I seem to be the one that is in the remedial program.

I don't know what I am going to do at this point. No matter WHAT I do, I gain. Short of selling my entire endocrine system on Ebay, I have no ideas at the moment.

Diane, I can imagine how frustrating this is for you. I have been along for the ride with you for quite some time (at least a year now!)and I have seen all the changes and different ways of mixing things up you have tried. I would be ready to sell my system on Ebay, too! So, you've already tried a myriad of things, how about trying just eating what you want - no counting, no food combos, no researching -just eat what you want when you want. I know from reading along the way that you generally enjoy healthy foods, so diving full throttle into a pan of brownies wouldn't be a problem for you (as it would for me!! LOL). Just a thought. Maybe doing this will allow your body (not to mention your mind) relax and let the weight come off. Might be worth a try!

I know you had said in a previous post that you were pre-menopausal have you tried primrose oil? You can find it in pill form at most vitamin stores. It is supposed to help naturally with hormones. My mother has had the hardest time loosing weight and she went to the doctor and was prescribed hormone pills and they have helped. Don't throw in the towel, the alternative is just adding pound after pound after pound and feeling miserable! {{hugs}}

Marisa- I am really considering that . I think I may be way too high strung about this whole thiong or something.

Wii Fit- I have been taking Evening Primrose Oil supplements for the last 10 yrs- I began taking them to relive PMS symptoms and have continued to take them because they help with many other things as well. In fact it was Evening Primrose that helped the most with my son's autism, and he has been taking them now for 4 yrs. I am also dealing with PCOS, and it seems that when PCOS women move into menopause, things get incredibly complicated, HRT for me would be a nightmare because it's not simply estrogen or progesterone out of balance ( androgen gets completely out of whack in these cases)

While throwing in the towel is VERY tempting, I am remembering one big reason not to. My son. He is the reason we started this and the main reason we are doing this.He needs a mentor in this, and till he is at a healthy weight, quitting is not an option.Back to the drawing board !

I can't imagine how frustrated you must be!! The only things i can think of is intuitive eating, and maybe portion size?
Honestly no clue because i think you eat better than i do :)

Oh, that is so frustrating! I think it says a LOT about your character, though, that despite this frustration, you stick with it for your son. That is LOVE and it is wonderful to see. I tried all sorts of diets, with varying degrees of success, and never once reached my goal. It is frustrating - very frustrating. But I took something away from all those failed attempts. I learned an awful lot about what DOESN'T work for me (like calorie counting, weighing food, etc.) ... it just wasn't realistic for me - and yet so very helpful to most people. This time around, things are very different for me - I can tell already. I (finally) found something that works for me and that I can stick with. I would just encourage you to keep trying, keep searching. We are all different, and what works for one is not going to for another. I had to go through more than a dozen different diets, before stumbling upon the one that seems to make a difference for me and my circumstance. Who knows, you may have to make up your very own, based on your previous experiences. Hang in there - vent away, but never give up!!
